But WWE All Stars is not all about offense, there’s some rather tricking defense and reversals to learn too – and that’s where, for me, the game falls down. Holding the L1 button AND rotating the analog stick clockwise, whilst concentrating on working out your next move does not for a pleasant experience make – and don’t get me started on the “targeting” system… Another frustrating element of the game is the targeting. Yes, its automatic in a 1-on-1 match, but when you’re in the middle of a fatal four-way it’s down to the player to target who to fight and its here that WWE All Stars really got on my nerves.
But just like them, however aware we are of everyone else and of existence in all its variety, we can only be ourselves, and, however many boxes we seem to fit into, we can only experience the world through our own single consciousness. What we call history (“things that have happened”) usually can’t quite manage the neatness of even the most bizarre or surreal fiction. There have been genuine, almost superhuman hero/antihero/demigod figures, but how often – even when we can see their entirety – do their lives have the satisfying shape of a story? Granted, Caesar, stabbed twenty three times by his peers in the Senate chamber, has the cause-and-effect narrative of myth; but it’s an ambiguous story where the hero is the villain, depending on your point of view. Whatever one’s point of view in The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, to have sympathy with someone referred to (or calling themselves) a ‘dark lord’ is to consciously choose to be on the side of ‘bad’, in a way that defending a republic as a republic, or an empire as an empire isn’t.

Developed by acclaimed Japanese studio LEVEL-5 Inc., White Knight Chronicles 2 takes us back to the magic-infused kingdom of fantasy, swordplay and myth and follows intrepid adventurer Leonard on a brand new voyage set one year on from his original adventure. White Knight Chronicles Origins on the other hand takes the fabled White Knight legend 10,000 years into the past in a prequel to the original game..
But of the characters available there are only a handful which truly suit the fighting game dynamic – many are cumbersome, slow and – when faced with more swifter opponents – are of ZERO use in a battle, even with the ridiculous mega-combo moves. The game is most definitely one of the great racing simulators, in fact you could call this the RPG of racing games – especially compared to some so-called simulators on the market, which makes it the perfect game for rev-heads everywhere. It’s just a shame that the long period of development is not visible in the finished product. On the downside, despite the beautiful cut scenes and gorgeous graphics, the landscapes within the game are pretty bare and lifeless.
It is given in the form of a percentage, and it is the theoretical amount of the money taken in by a slot that can be paid out to players. From mellow Welsh-American music to Japanese heavy noise; Gensho includes a cover, swathed in echo and delay, of perhaps my favourite My Bloody Valentine song, Sometimes and that kind of sums up the album; it’s beautiful and haunting and harsh and (only occasionally) nearly unlistenable, but it’s great. It’s a great partnership and I’d like them to explore it further. I had already heard both of these great releases but when I saw that Mind Ripper were selling them on vinyl 7″s ridiculously inexpensively. Anthrophobia is a brilliant meeting of two very different musical personalities, with Godhole’s intensely emotive and strangely catchy powerviolence being distorted almost to the point of non-music by Crozier’s harsh noise; it’s bracing and not at all pretty, but it has a real impact and is worryingly addictive.
